Burrow 10, Proun. Disinterment, 2012

Single-channel HD video, 17 min. Editing and soundtrack: Rafa Ruiz

This work recreates, through a video, an archaeological excavation in which a buried constructive form is discovered that simulates one of the Proun developed by the Russian artist El Lissitzky (1). In an attempt to link the past and the future, as times that converge in the present, a soundtrack inspired by science fiction films has been created with the intention of generating an abstract atmosphere with discontinuous sound effects. The idea of simultaneous time and space travel, which is common in many futuristic novels and films, is based on the four-dimensional theory developed by the mathematician Hermann Minkowski, whom El Lissitzky deeply admired.

(1) The Proun was a project developed by El Lissitzky between 1919 and 1925 and its name comes from the Russian acronym “PROyect Utverzhdenia Novogo” (Project for the Affirmation of the New).
